sorry about this. i am sure this has been answered many times before. i've searched the forum but not finding what i need (probably cos i'm crap at searching).

i would like to get vids off my mobile and convert them to avi so i can watch them in any player.

anyway, on this site i've found about 3 tools that convert 3gp to avi (other formats would do though - i'd convert them to xvid avi once i had the vid on my hdd in a decent format) but there are no comments or reviews on them. i want to know before i install if they are malware ridden or not.

oh by the way. i tried super but it didn't work for me (at all). i posted a comment about it in the tools section under (you guessed it) super.

i see lots of posts and info about getting avi, mpg, etc from the hdd onto mobiles, but not much in the opposite direction.

    any recommendations.

    thanks.

Regarding the problems you were having with SUPER:

The 'empty' drop-down menus are a known problem. You can fix it by right-clicking on the main window and unchecking "Stay on top." (personally, I don't know why that would have a bearing on the dropdowns, but it's probably just me.)

(And yes, I did see the mention that you uninstalled it.)

The thing you've generally got to keep in mind when converting with SUPER is that you often have to know the frame rate of the original movie and tell SUPER to use the same frame rate on the output video. You might have to do that with the audio sample/bit rate as well. I'm not sure how well ffmpeg/mencoder or the other tools which SUPER is actually calling handle 3GP files, though. I've only tried converting a video to 3GP format once.

As far as I know, none of the other options for 3GP to AVI conversion have spyware/malware. Generally speaking, though, none of the programs listed in the Tools section should be malware.
