    Hey
Yesterday I posted a thread on how to join aac and xvid - i got an answer and it worked
everything was in sync. My divx player does not support aac audio
so i need to convert the aac to mp3 and then join with my xvid avi.
When i joined the aac with the xvid avi yesterday it was perfectly in sync - however i used xilisoft audio converter to convert my aac to mp3 and when i join it with my xvid it is a couple of seconds out of sync
my mp3 is one second shorter than my vid (though i think this is less than a second) - just rounded up..
Is there a way to do a proper conversion to mp3 so that all is different is the codec :S
This way i can join the mp3 with the xvid avi and i can have a full avi that is in sync..
I have quite a few of vids to convert in this way so i can't really use trial and improvement to keep adding different numbers in to speed up/decrease the audio or shifting the audio forward/backwards until it matches.
the aac was perfectly in sync with the vid
the vid is the same just the mp3 needs to be in sync now.

    Many thanks

Tried decoding the AAC to WAV with faad, then to MP3? Could be the xilisoft acting up.

    Hey, thanks for the reply
I thought of converting it to other formats then mp3 but wouldn't that mess the audio up a little?
I'm not an expert but converting a few times ruins the quality doesn't it?
    Or should it be ok.
In that case i'll try converting to .wav with Xilisoft and then to mp3..?

Thanks for the reply as i'm getting very close to have a fully converted mp4 to avi xvid.
Been almost half a year maybe more that i've been trying to do this.
Once audio is sorted then i'm set.. w00t!

    Thanks Mats

No, not any more than some seemingly direct method, as wav (uncompressed) will always be an intermediate format during the process.
You'll lose some quality in the process of going from one compressed format to another, but that's inevitable if you can't use the AAC as is. (Well, you could use PCM (wav) audio, but then the file size would sky rocket)
And since Xilisoft may be the culprit in the conversion problem, I'd avoid it, if not just to rule out an error source.

    K thanks
I remember when i first accidentally forgot to remove the PCM audio
My file size came out to 5gB!
anyway i'm downloading faad now and i'm going to convert the aac to wav and then to mp3 (and that can all be done with faad?)
i'm not too bothered about a little quality loss - as long as i can hear it and it is in sync then i'm ok

    Thanks Mats
    Appreciated
Will reply as soon as i've converted.

edit - how can i use faad - i just downloaded it but it was the source code - can i get an executable version of faad? :S - otherwise i'm not sure how to use it.
    Thanks

Command line tools are run from the command prompt (in which you type the name of it, and hit enter). If you just type "faad" it will explain how to use it.

    Basically you type:
    Code:
    faad -o decoded.wav compressed.aac
where "decoded.wav" is the name you want for your uncompressedd audio, and "compressed.aac" the name of your aac file.

    Thanks for the reply.
    However BeSweet doesn't support *.aac
Should I try using Nero to convert aac to wav (though it says PCM)?
and then use BeSweet or another tool to convert the wav into mp3?
If i'm not using Xilisoft anymore am i better off using another tool but this time just converting straight from *.aac to *.mp3?
Should it be going out of sync like this.
*.aac was perfect - should it stay exactly the same once converted?
There must be a proper method to convert which keeps everything the same apart form the codec ...

    Thanks for the replies guys.
    Appreciated

You could pipe from faad to lame. Would save writing out a pcm wav file.

You can use the command line faad and lame with Speek's Multi-frontend. Once you download, open it up, extract it to a folder, and run Multi frontend.exe select locations and point to the command line programs like faad or Lame or any of the others you have installed. This will allow you to convert between formats. Both Faad and Lame are on the Lossy tab in Locations. Under options you have the opportunity to pipe from file to file instead of using an intermediate wav file. BeHappy also works really well for conversion of audio files.

Since you are planning on making video for a stand alone player, you may want to find out what type (CBR or VBR) of MP3 your player can handle. My DVP642 will not play VBR Mp3s in an xvid avi.

    Thanks i'll try these out.
Now that i'm using another app.
I'll try converting the aac to mp3 - if that doesn't work i'll work with .wav
i'm not sure about the VBR/CBR though i'm positive my player supports VBR - so i'll go with that for now.

    Thanks guys

    I can't open aac's with Belight.
I' malso not sure how this prog works
is it the program that will convert the aac to wav/mp3 or the program that will mux my mp3 with the avi.
    Or does it do both?
It has aac listed on a tab but i'm unable to open aac's
maybe you can convert to it but not from it?

Never thought audio would be a problem...
