I am new to video encoding and would like to get some information from more experienced people.
My current setup is
PVR-150 Capture Card and GB PVR. Im using the S Video out on my DirecTV stb to connect to the pvr-150 and the audio out from
the stb to the pvr-150 via a Y connecter to rhe capture card.
I can capture the programs tht I want and am pleased with the video at this point, however I am having a hard time
understanding the audio. The programs are being captured in MPEG2 format. The audio section after exporting the track in wave
formt indictes tht its 2-ch stereo but when I open it in Audacity it shows as a stereo track with sound only on one of the
tracks.
Im trying to export the audio in wave format so that I can encode it in Sonic Foundry Soft Encode Dolby and use that as a
soundtrack on the movies that I want to burn to DVD to keep.
Please if you would explain the proper procedure for doing this or a place where I may get some information on this I would
really appreciate the help. Im trying to learn this but have reached a standstill at this point and could use some direction.
Thank you

It could be that your original audio source is only in one channel. I recorded MTV last year when they broadcast the Live 8 concerts. I have the PVR-350. It records stereo with no problems. However, for some bizarre reason, my cable company (Comcast) was broadcasting MTV in "stereo" but it was really a mono feed with everything on the left channel. I listened to the MTV feed through my PC speakers and indeed it was only in one channel. Maybe for some reason DirecTV is only sending you one channel of sound on whatever you are recording, but you'll have to check this out yourself. What I did was use CoolEdit's batch file routine to only copy the left channel, which I saved as a mono wav file and I just encoded that to Dolby 2.0 mono for the DVD that I made.

Thank you jman
I will check the stb and connections again. By the way I also impoted a couple of the MPEGS into DVD Author Pro and it says this about the audio section : MPEG-1 Audio Layer II (MP 2) 48000 Hz 2 ch 224 kb/s
I don't know if that helps at all but figured I may as well put that in the mix as well. -

I just wanted to say Thanks again. It seems that it was a problem with my cables for the input to the PVR-150, the minijack into the card is a bit touchy I guess.
