Hello everyone, I have shot hours and hours of HDV footage for a film I'm working on, and I'm ready to edit it - but I want to work on it in 720p/24p, so I need to convert the 1080i/60i footage to said format. I'd also prefer to do it with the best look for no extra money (student)....

Does anyone have any good render/project settings for getting a great quality 1080i->720p/24p conversion without paying for more software?

    What is your goal?
    Transfer to film?
What software do you have now?

This would be an interpolation process and is best done in hardware if absolutely necessary. If you are a film student, you need better project planning. You have painted yourself into a box that you can only escape with both frame size and frame rate interpolation. Quality is going to suffer and calculation time will be extremely long.

Normal 720p intended for broadcast is 59.94 fps. That conversion is easier.

You can try this on a 10 min clip in Vegas 6 using

    Render as
    Video for windows (uncompressed)
Custom video settings 1280x720, 24fps (film) or 23.976

Include various lighting and action including pans and zooms.

The file sizes generated will be very large.
See how long it takes and what it looks like to you.
