Empty iPod video after encoding using default parameters

Hi all,
I have tried to scan the forum looking for someone else with the same issue, since it sounds very trivial to me.

I have just updated FfmpegX, updated all the command line utilities it relies on, and tried encoding my first video for my iPod (h.264) following the guide on the web site. I did not do anything but what is described there. I have tried with more than one source file, but everytime what I get is only a blank file. Both Quicktime and VLC show me a properly-sized mute and black video.

I tried with Handbrake from a DVD then, wondering if the problem was playback, but got to a perfectly playable file.

Any advice? Thank you in advance,

Try clicking the blue "i" button in the progress window, and post here the output messages. That could be useful to see what happens.
