can anyone tell me roughly how long sholuld dvdrebuilder take to encode a movie, as other day it took me 6 hours to do a 1.89gb movie

It has to do with the length of the movie (number of frames), PAL or NTSC (PAL usually takes longer), how many passes you're running using which encoder, whether or not you're doing any filtering, and your computer specs. And not the final size (why 1.89 GB?). Since we only have your computer specs, we're short a lot of information. However, given the right circumstances, 3 times the length of the film isn't bad. You in a hurry? Do it while you sleep.
