  1. I have several clips already in Xvid format is there a tool that will allow me to add chapterpoints and leave them in Xvid format? Or must I convert them to MPEG2 and add chapters in when I author them to DVD?

    The latter.
    Or the new DivX container format (not the video codec). Not much player support for this tho.

  3. Or you can split the xvid file into smaller pieces so you can use the next >>| button to advance every, e.g. 10mins or so

    Depends what you mean by XviD format. A raw XviD stream can't have chapter points. Mux that XviD stream to mp4, mkv, ogm, dsm, etc. and you can have chapter points. Chances are that you meant avi format though in which case the DivX media format as suggested already is as close as you can get.

    XviD != avi.
