When I use a Sony DVD-R (v2. 1x-8x) with a Sony DRU-810A and Nero, I get data verification errors. However, when I use an HP DVD-R (8x) with the same drive, software, and source files, I don't get any errors.

When I use the same Sony DVD-R with a Lite-On SOHW-812S (external USB) drive connected to the same PC (again, same burning software and files), I don't get any verification errors.

I've not had verification errors using the HP disks on both the Sony or the Lite-On burners.

Just to make sure that it's not a defect in the disks, I repeated the first process (Sony disk in the Sony drive, same software and source files) and got the same errors again (in the same sectors).

I'd appreciate it if anyone can offer any advice on this. The BIOS of the PC, components, and both DVD burners are updated. For now, I'll just to have burn using the Lite-On until I'm able to buy more HP disks.

What's the media id of those SONY DVD-R discs? Use dvdinfo pro or dvd identifier to find the media id. Manufacturers will outsource their blank disc to different companies. The SONY DVD-R could be media id TYG02 which is TAIYO YUDEN which is one of the best to use. On the SONY spindle if it says, "MADE IN JAPAN", more than likely it's TAIYO YUDEN. Although some have reported that some, 'MADE IN JAPAN" spindles, the media id was not TAIYO YUDEN.

Your SONY 810A drive is a rebadged BENQ 1640. You may want to update your firmware on your drive or consider crossflashing your drive to the official BENQ 1640 firmware. Search the BENQ FORUM at CdFreaks.com. I've crossflashed a dozen rebadged BENQ 1640 drives. If your model is SONY 810A-R you won't be able to crossflash to offical BENQ 1640 firmware. The drive will be dead if you try to crossflash it. There is a thread about it at the BENQ FORUM.

According to DVD Identifier, it's "Sony Recording Media Co." (SONY08D1). "Sony Corporation" is printed in the inner circle of the disk.

I was able to flash the drive to BENQ and use the latest firmware around three months ago but the same problems took place, so I flashed it back to Sony and updated the firmware

As for the HP disks, the manufacturer name is "Mitsubishi Chemical Corp" (MCC, media type 003).

I'd like to avoid wearing out the external Lite-On drive to burn these disks because I need the drive to back up data in my old notebook. I'll try flashing the drive back to BENQ (since there are new updates) as a last resort. Thanks for the help!

FYI, will try to use another program and/or comparison program like Windiff or CD Check.
