Since my current DVD authoring software is as old as dirt I am in the process trialing a replacement. I am currently only making home movies so I do not need anything too sophisticated. I just started testing Ulead Movie Factory 5+ and DVD Author 2.0. Below are the issues I am finding. Please let me know if I am overlooking something, as I have been known to do. Also did I overlook something in the under $200 range worth looking at.

    Thanks for your help

    Movie Factory:
    1. Will not make motion clips over 30 seconds
    2. Do not seem to have the ability to make changes to the start and end times of the different thumbnail clips independently

    DVD Author:
    1. No HD authoring
    2. Will not let me view motion menus without rendering them first, then when I try stepping through my menus for testing the motion stops playing
    3. Very basic fad ins and outs for menus

I would go with TMPGEnc DVD Author as it is both easy-to-use and works well ... it is a solid program with no bugs and creates a fully compliant DVD Video structure.

Yes the menu design is not the greatest but it gets the job done ... did I mention it is easy-to-use (especially putting your own custom chapter marks) and is rock solid?

BTW I would use the program only to create your DVD Video structure i.e., your VIDEO_TS folder with the IFO, BUP and VOB files.

    Then burn with ImgBurn 2.0

In fact that goes no matter what DVD authoring program you use as there is no better DVD burning program than ImgBurn 2.0
