Does having two computers running on the internet at home at one time count? I was addicted to TV before, so the internet is an improvement.

To make things worse, one of my new job functions at work is to....Guess what?......Surf the internet for 8 hours a day. I may need to file a Workers Comp claim for addiction after a year or two of that. I'm thinking I need one of those setups with a wall of computer monitors sometimes.

According to a currently running commercial, it's not possible to become addicted to the internet because local addiction treatment centers don't treat for it.

    Moderately so

I kind of compare it to reading the newspapres of old. I sign on, check the headlines, sports, money pages and anything else that catches my eye, then I go to the funny pages for a laugh (the fourms)
IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT?

  7. I chose other, I'm on it 5 days a week at work and 7 days a week at home...

However when My internet went down for a month at home, Damn cable company didn't want to give credit since they would come fix any weekday daytime. However I couldn't get off from work for that and weekends they were over a month out.

So I watched TV and checked my email at work and that was that unless I had alittle free time then I would come here.

I ended up changing to DSL, not because the internet was out for a month but because they Bleeped me off by not giving a credit for the outage.

Now I'm thinking of getting FIOS for more speed, Then I hit myself on the head and say for what? So my brother can do things faster on his floor of the house? Long story there.

    So what, yes I'm addicted.

  9. Not a question of addiction. Now it is like good, air , water - it will be very very difficult to manage without it

  11. I agreed. Most of us check information from hour and phone number of bussiness, movie show time, school supply list,.. to driving direction online. The web replaces phone book, friends, maps and ...etc.

  12. The internet is constantly amazing me with what it can do. Whatever I need, I can find it on the internet. If I need driving directions, even photos of the building I am looking for, it is there. If I need a service manual for a 1993 Toyota Camry it is there. Video software, audio software, help of all kinds, live music, movie reviews, arcade cabinet plans, cherry Pez... whatever I want it's there on the internet! And cheaper than ever! I don't know how I ever got by without it. I LOVE THE INTERNET!!!

I guess this wasn't too much of a suprise with some of the people at this website (myself included - though I can unplug sometimes )

The lack of instant info is what bothers me when I lose net access.. When I've lost my net connection for a week or so here or there (thanks comcast, you suck) it was not the online games or being unable to d/l whatever that I missed as much as it was the lack of info.

everything seems to be "Oh check the net" as my first impluse. Need directions? How late is that store open? Titantv.com has totaly replaced any sort of printed tv guide for me, news.google for world events from tons of differnet news papers etc etc etc...

Never mind the strange void of contact one can fall into with out email if you are waiting to hear back about some issues.

    Yes - I can't live without it

I first discovered the internet while in my 2nd year of college which would have been 1991 - 1992 and I foundly remember using IRC and GOPHER etc.

Mosiac was not yet around LOL

Anyway I have been addicted ever since ... especially after Mosiac and then Netscape.

  23. The Internet is magic. Back at the dawn of time, in 1975, I built my first computer from a kit--an Altair. There was no internet. Then there were Bulletin Boards and dial-up (does anybody still use dial up??).

Today, I have four computers, sometimes all running simultaneously on the Internet. My PDA is wireless, and I sometimes check my email with the PDA while the other computers are off communicating with the Internet. I seem to be chewing up routers--lynksys, belkin and now a D-Link. I have Charter 3mb--they are now offering 5 and 10mb, but, I think my 3 is sufficient for now (famous last words). I am typing this reply on my laptop while I am watching Eureka on the Sci Fi channel.

Yes, I am a geek. Also have an amateur radio license, a Large telescope, and other geeky hobbies. But folks, let's face it--geeky stuff is fun stuff. I also used to be in a band. Not anymolre, But have all kinds of MIDI stuff hooked up to one of the computers.

Being addicted to the net ain't all that bad--beats going to bars and facing those nasty hangovers--I used to do that years ago, but no more.

I am 62 and still find magic in electronic goodies!!

By the way, a little side comment. For you guys that have Charter Cable and see your connection dropping periodically, go check your pedestal in your yard and make sure your cables are soundly connected. I went through four Charter cable dudes who went through all kinda crap, but never fixed my problem. One day I was waklking my dog and had an epiphany!! Nobody checked my cable pedestal in the yard. I lifted the pedestal, tightgened up all my conections, and, voila a problem that was pegging me forever went away!! For fun, check your pedestal.

It astonishes me to say this... but no, I'm not addicted at all. I used to be in a big way, but this summer with the massive heatwave we had in Toronto I had to find other things to do besides sitting at my comp for any length of time.

    * My emails are now phone calls.
    * My movies I either get info from tv or newspapers (read in the bathtub) or wait for the dvd. With my dissapointment in the industry lately I don't mind the wait one bit.
    * Computer gaming has been replaced by going out places, sports, hobbies, participating in things I was always interested in but never got around to doing.
    * Message boards have been replaced with face to face contact.
    * Everything else I either don't really need to do or can find a way to do it away from the comp.

In fact, if I didn't need the computer or internet for work (which I don't at the moment), I wouldn't even turn it on at all. My hardrive crashed recently and it took me 4 days to even notice.

Maybe in the winter time when there's less to do I might use it more, simply because I'm bored and it's there, or maybe I'll just take up ice sculpting.

    No addiction here, just Freedom.

Absolutely can't live without it. I pay my bills, manipulate my investments, buy stuff, get my news, etc. all on the net.

Plus I run my own forum and that requires a lot of time online - either on the forum, backing it up, or doing this or that to it.

If the internet were to close down, I'd need some serious medication for the withdrawals
