  1. I'm fairly new to this program. Trying to burn a couple of experimental titles made from small AVI files onto DVD-RW. Encoding itself was surprisingly slow (e.g. compared to similar DVD on same disc made with ConvertXtoDVD earlier today), but burning has stopped altogether. NVE is just sitting there with Burning Progress slider still at extreme left. Abort button is greyed out. So I'll have to force closure.

Hey - just as I finished sentence above, the tray opened and I got a message saying 'Burn successfully completed'! And the DVD plays OK too. So the query changes to: anyone else seen an 'inactive' progress bar like that please?

Depends on how long it was "stuck" in that stage. Sounds like it was finalyzing the disc.

  3. Thanks. That sounds reasonable. I can't be sure how long, but it was at least 5 minutes. And could have been much longer, before I became aware of the inactivity. But shouldn't the finalisation stage be included in the progress indicator? IOW, presumably there should be no point at which you get nothing, except for maybe a second or two at the very end?

To be honest, I never really pay attention. I know I seen similar symptoms during burns, which seems to vary with the brand/type of disc used, and it is not part of the progress indicator. The process I am referring to occurs after the progress indicator shows complete. I don't think I've ever had it last that long though.
