Was wondering if there are any programs that will just extract the audio from the dv file. I know I can just extract the entire dv file from camcorder to the HD, and than get the wav file from that. I am just trying to avoid the hassell of the big avi file.

If your camcorder has an audio out connector, you may be able use that. Otherwise, there's no way I know to get just the audio from the camcorder over a FireWire cable as it is muxed together with the video.
If you are having issues with low hard drive space, DV can be a problem. The solution is generally more hard drive space. Considering that the DV transfer via FireWire would take the same amount of time if it was just video or just audio, I don't see the problem if you have sufficient hard drive space. -
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, HD space is the problem. Guess its time for another HD.

if you play the DV Camcorder INTO a DVD recorder thru the Firewire (4 Pin);; and record to a DVD;; can you take the line out of the DVD recorder at the same time and record the "audio" to a CD recorder;; or as in my case an MD recording deck??
but,, i've just been playing the camcorder into an MD Recorder to get the audio..
or;; after making a DVD;; i just play the DVD audio into my MD's..
am interested in other ways too.. -
I have an analog-to-digital converter which I use to capture analog A/V onto PC, the converter converts to DV over IEEE1394 (FireWire). It also works in reverse, converting DV over IEEE1394 to analog A/V. So playing the camcorder into this converter and taking just the audio output would get it. Of course so would just taking just the analog audio output of the camcorder directly . . .

i use an "optical to coaxal converter into my PC#1; thus converting the MD deck analog>ditital into the PC to be burnt by Roxio..;
my only firewire is from my Camcorder to the DVD Recorder..
BUT,, using your idea;; i can send my audio signal from the camcorder to the DVD Recorder via firewire;;and instantly out the DVD recorder via optical;; into the PC converted to Coaxal..
and of course i capture a LOT of my music from Cable music stations optically into my MD decks..
would i have a "Copywrite" problem along the way??i will re-mix "anything" that makes noise or flashes on a screen!!
