    For encoding or reading? You have the Mainconcept DV Codec, Canopus DV Codec, Cedocida DV Codec and the
    Panasonic DV Codec listed on our site. There are a few others. I prefer Mainconcept, but I have not been able to tell much difference between it and the others. For freeware, I like the Panasonic DV codec.

    Vegas ships with Sony's DV codec, which is a very good implementation, able to withstand several generations before obvious artifacts appear.
