    Hello,
I am trying to convert the avi file that i captured using winDV from my mini dv camcorder to MKV using MEGUI , but when i run the interlace analysis , it comes up with a message "The input clip for source detection could not be opened. AVIsource: couldn't locate a decompressor for fourcc dvsd"
I have installed the pdvcodec but still the same problem! anyone have a solution.... ???

I could convert it using pinnacle studio to DVD and then re-encode to MKV in megui, but i would rather have to encode only once from the source......?

If any one can help.....please do!! thank you.

Try replacing AVISource in your script with DirectShowSource, this should force it to use the MSDV codec.

  3. Or install CedoCida (VFW DV codec used by AviSource).

This dose work BUT only after u have saved the avs file and NOT while u r creating it in megui. If i go to the edit tab and replace as u say...and then run the deinterlace analysis button...it still gives me the same message!!The problem is I need to run the deinterlace analysis so it can auto detect the paramaters for deinterlacing. And I don't think i can run the interlace analysis after loading the saved avs file.

thanks for ur effort....any other ideas are also welcome........thank you.

  6. The Panasonic DV codec only outputs RGB. Maybe MEGUI doesn't like RGB? That doesn't seem likely.

In any case the Panasonic DV codec is full of bugs. It's from the dark ages of DV and hasn't been updated in 10 years. It performs a rec.601 contrast expansion when it converts to RGB. This causes a loss of the darkest darks and brightest brights. You should remove it from your system and use Cedocida instead.
