I'm sure this topic is covered somewhere here, but I can't seem to find the right words to narrow my search to find it.

If I have a VCD that I want to convert to DVD, how do I start?

What if I don't want every track on the disc? What do I do if I want only one track, or maybe two, off the disc? Is this what is known as 'ripping'?

Point me to the correct tutorial or instructions, and I can probably take it from there.

Download a copy of VCDgear. It's freeware. Your VCD will have a directory called MPEGAV on it. Go there and use VCDgear to convert all *.DAT files to MPG files. This equates to ripping it. If you want only certain parts of the VCD, you will need an editor of some kind to edit out the parts you want. If the VCD has multiple DAT files, say it's music videos, and each DAT file is a separate video, then just conver the ones you want to MPG.

After getting your VCD video to MPG format, you need to demux it into separate audio and video streams. Then you have to convert the audio from 44 KHz to 48 KHz. There are various guides here on how to do this. Just look at "All Guides" and look for "VCD to DVD" under format conversions. One very easy way to do it is to buy SVCD2DVD and use it. A guide is at

I used the demo version once and I liked the program, but I have very little need for this type of conversion, so I never used it past the demo expiration.
