old tvtapes "copyprotected" between episodes?

I have a couple of vhstapes with tvepisodes and when i record them to my dvdrecorder the recording stop between the episodes and a popupbox tells me this tape is copy protected.
It´s old tapes recorded off television.

Is there any setting i have missed to enable/dissable?

Between the tvepisodes there is noise black and white small blocks for 1 second its there it got stuck.

Im using
VCR = JVC HR-S9500EH (PAL)
DVDRecorder = JVC DR-M10 (PAL)
and the tapes are regular 240min (PAL)

With s-video cable from the back on the VCR and inserted in the frontside on the dvdrecorder.
And the same with audiocables RCA red and white.

Its annoing to have to jogshuttle to the startframe of every episode and then manually start recordning every 30min.

My guess would be they are index markers recorded onto the tape by the recorder - and I would further guess it is NOT the recorder you're now playing them back on since you would like to think it would be engineered in such a way that you can not see them. In most cases this should be on the control track, but index marks were not, IIRC, part of the original VHS spec and as such could be inserted pretty much anywhere on the tape.

If my guess is right, I would then suppose your recorder is mistaking this pulse as Macrovision - in which case you may need a hack on your recorder to ignore this, or use a timebase corrector between the player and recorder to stabilise this glitch.

Having not seen this before that's a lot of guesses, but I hope it helps none the less.

Yes thats true I made the recordings on an older VCR.
I cant find any modified firmware for JVC DR-M10, so i have to buy a standalone TBC for 300$?
Then i rather buy another dvdrecorder

Or does the firmwares exist on a unknown site somewhere?

Hi Leffe,

I had a similar problem transferring old RC heli tapes. Every now and then a dropout from the old tape would happen, and come back and the DVD had stopped recording, from the recorder thinking it was copy protected. For sure the no macrovision firmware fixed it for me, and was very easy (ILO recorder, basically a liteon). Definitely what you want to try first, maybe even borrow or rent another recorder if you can't find the FW for the one you have. If it's actually a real bit of signal in weird places, even a seperate macrovision killer and/or TBC will likely not fix the problem, since they'll do their thing but still may not remove all of that signal. Worked great once the recorder wouldn't stop by just totally ignoring any 'macrovision' at all, then edited out the dropouts after it was digital..

Interesting problem, I have many uk pal vhs that were recorded with pansonics with that "seperation" signal, not seen the problem yet.

See if you can use another vcr, as your dvd recorder cannot be beaten for picture quality and the ILO models are known to be just as senstiive.

Or see this item on ebay, it doesn't say it removes macrovision but it might not be legally able to say that on Ebay,contact the seller and ask.
