  1. What would experts recommend as the best way to convert a VIDEO_TS folder of video files to an AVI file please?

The context is that I have a program called MemoriesOnTV that does a neat job of applying Ken & Burns pan/zoom effects flexibly to my photo JPGS. It creates either a finished DVD or the usual VOB folders on HD. I don't rate its other features very highly, so I want to do my movie editing elsewhere. So I want to do the Ken & Burns and then convert the VOB folder to an AVI that I can import to another movie editing program.

You could use VOB2MPG, then run the MPEG through VirtualDub Mod and convert to HuffyUV, Pic Video or DV format. You can use the Panasonic DV Codec for DV format conversion. Then edit with whichever AVI editor you want. You would have to re-encode it once again to MPEG-2, then author it again for a DVD.

There will be some quality losses involved. You could just drop one VOB into VD Mod and convert that to AVI, then back again with an MPEG encoder to see how it will look before committing yourself.

    And I'm not a expert.
