I've got a single title: m2v 3.8 GB, AC3 400 MB. I just want to author it to DVD. No menu necessary, preferably using a chapter time list I have in text format.

However, my disk is fat32, so the authoring apps I've tried blow up when they mux the files and get to 4GB. (I would prefer not to reformat to NTFS.)

Is there a simple, free, app that can take these files and create a VIDEO_TS VOB set without using an intermediate single file?

So far I've tried GuiForDVDAuthor; Rejig. Both mux to a single file before creating VOBs.
I would have thought perhaps some older apps would have FAT32 limitations in mind and not do that.

    IFOEdit, perhaps ?

Can't remember with Win2k (it's been a while), but certainly XP has a utility called convert that allows you to convert a FAT32 drive to NTFS without the need to reformat.

  3. You have two choices:
    1.Split the m2v with TMPGEnc.
    2.Convert your HD to NTFS:

    FAT disks have several problems:
    Fragmentation
    Orphaned sectors
    2 gig limit

    Convert to NTFS.

    Convert to NTFS.
I think I already said that I didn't want to do that.
One reason being low compatibility with Linux and older DOS apps, which I sometimes use.

Then you have to modify the way you author, or look specifically for an older, win98 compatible version of an authoring tool. One possible solution would be to author in smaller bits, then try to bring the lot together afterwards with something like TDA. You could import the parts and hope it doesn't pull them apart and rebuild them.

Your other choice is to install a second HDD and format this as NTFS so you can work on these larger projects without "compromising" your other drive.

    Thanks for the varied advice.

So I went through the authoring tools I hadn't tried (IFOedit also uses an intermediate single MPG, apparently the same authoring module as Rejig) and found Muxman, which does exactly what I need; muxes directly to VOBs. Useful if you're running low on temp diskspace.

Just burnt it, works fine. For a free 300k program, it's pretty cool.
