    The Evolution of Desktops

    http://r-101.blogspot.com/

    "This nice gallery shows the evolution in the appearance of Mac OS, Microsoft Windows and KDE through the years, from the first version to the last available. Not technical, but still interesting to recall some memories from the good old days."

  2. It figures...no mention of the TRS-80/Tandy Color Computer(Motorola 6809 CPU), and it's OS/9 operating system. This was probably the first multi-tasking O/S and had a GUI too that you could load. All before 1984.

    No mention of GEM either... But I'm guessin' it's not a history of GUI but a history of the current main players.

    Imagine if GEM had had 100% of the money spent on it that Windows got

    I remember using GEM (late 80's) - it was the interface for Xerox Ventura Publisher. If I recall corectly it actually was a decent system, very solid and worked well for large documents.

    <Guess I'm showing my age...>

    If it had the money it would have turned into a good system. Here's a better one... Imagine if IBM realized the importance/value of the operating system (or software in general).
