Though at 25 per $7.99 it ain't exactly cheap, but if you only need small batches it ain't that bad. At least it's not generic.

The media turns out to be CMC. It is 16X rated though, and so far has no problems in my 16X drive.

I tried the Philips +R 16x in the 100 pack and they were CMC MAG M01.

They mostly burned ok at the rated 16x speed but about 5 discs just quit early in the burn. I continued a couple in multisession mode and those were readable even though I lost 100mb or so but I won't likely buy them again.

I've had good success with 16x +R Memorex RICOHJPNR03 but so far the best 16x disc I've used are Verbatim +R MCC 004 (Futureshop $29.99 ca per 100). I have yet to have a failed burn with the Verbatim and my burner doesn't sound like a jet revving its engines before takeoff.

btw) I burn all these discs at the rated 16x speed in an LG-4163b and bitset to dvd-rom. I had some failures reading divx with the Philips discs in my dvd-642 but they worked fine on my computer drives.

  5. I wonder if CMC ever fixed their longevity problem. I had some Memorex CD-R's made by CMC. After about one year in storage, some of them went bad. I no longer buy Memorex or anything made by CMC.

I recently went to Fry's and was suprised to find some Maxell DVD+R (MXL) made in Japan. $9.99 for 25pack. I'd rather pay more for better media. I don't want my family photos and videos to fade away.
