This is the scenario. I was using nero to burn my dvd videos. However just a week ago my dvd burner died on me for what reason i do not know and i went and bought a new one. The new one i bought is a USB dvd burner unlike the older one which was IDE. Ever since i bought the USB dvd burner, i haven't been able to create a dvd video that plays on stand-alones. I know that with Nero, certain settings must be on in order to successively create a dvd video. Bearing that in mind, when i first tried to burn the dvd, i realised that my Joilet options that would normally be accessed, were not thus i am concluding that is the case since i went on some else's computer with all the dvd files and burn and it worked and the joilet options could be modified.

Saying all of that i would like to know what is the problem with my nero when it comes to burning dvd videos. It burn everything else good. Is it really the software or the hardware that is the problem? Should I get another burning tool to see if it works? What other burning tools are as good as Nero? Can they burn DVD videos in Joilet form?
    How's My English?

  2. Try ImgBurn,if that doesn't work try updating the firmware: www.rpc1.org
BTW...DVD-VIDEO can be UDF or Joliet+UDF.

ok. I tried the UDF setting and they (the Nero program) told me, it makes no sense burning the video with the UDF setting and that i could have well burn it under the DVD video setting

You could remove the drive from the usb housing , if other burning tool's fail , and install it as ide ... and see .

If it work's this way , then there is an issue with the external usb housing controller (most likely issue) ... or you may have a setting in the bios that need's changing ...

Consult the manufacturer's website faq's for incident's from other owner's to see if problem has been reported , and / or resolved .

Unfortunately ... when it come's to bios change's , these unit's will most likely ignore bios change's anyway ... seem's to be more of a problem with external hd's over certain size's .

Usb external device's can be quite problematic ... if in doubt , best leave them out ... you will have less headache's .

    Note's :

Beside's ... If this unit dosent have it's own power supply , and is drawing power from the usb buss on the pc ... you can quite easily trigger a system warning "usb over current detected - usb has been reset" ... if this happen's , while the pc will still work ... the usb sub system has been seriously compromised ... it is nolonger functioning at full throttle .

I have seen this happen a few time's ... remember agp and usb go hand in hand ... if one get's upset , expect the other to be as well ... I have seen video card's die soon afterward from this problem ... card's so hot , it burn's your hand after only 30 second's .

If this warning ever present's it's ugly head ... if pc has onboard video ... but currently using addon agp ... shut down pc ... remove addon agp card ... use onboard ... replace motherboard asap .

Continuing to use the system may result in addon agp card having issue's ... or die completely ... not funny stuff .
