Oops, sorry, that is a player but what is slot-in? Google seems confused as well.

Yep, first thing i thought of also....
They actually still make those ??

But in all fairness, pretty much all indash systems are like that & i have one in my truck, although i have never put any of my original disc's in it, only backups, my other mobile player is a 6 pack that takes a cart. and i still don't put originals in that, although i would trust it ovre a slot player, and i dont think i'd want one for a burner on any of my systems 8)

    Why?
I am wondering for same reason...
In tray loading ones, if there is a problem, you can have the slot to manually exit...
In these slot-in, how does it works?

  10. I've never seen a writer with slot-load design. I did have a Pioneer slot-load DVD-ROM drive at one time. Never had any problems with it. Also had a slot-load Pioneer in my car that also took 3" discs. These drives have a mechanism of rollers that grab the disc by the sides. So it won't scratch the bottom of discs. Beats me why they did away with the design.

Why do you say this? Because it is less practice, less sure?
Could you please tell me if in your drive there is/was a mechanism to exit the disc manualy in case of problems (black out...)
In other drives, as I wrote, there is a little hole where you can put something thin and press and the tray will open even if pc is turned off...
    This is important...

  12. I have a front loader (slot-in) dvd player and will never buy another one. It has scratched a few of my double sided dvds. Single sided dvds are OK.

no slot in, no slot in! Iīll buy tray loading one... I didnītthought this, but it is true, double sided discs... of course
Question, is there any double sided double layer disc? Because, if the drive writes double layer, for what is a double sided disc, when you can put all in one side? Maybe for double layer bouble sided, so you can put 15gb in a disc?
I still am trying to understand, maybe you that had one slot in can know this: does it has a mechanisms for manual opening, to exit disc manually if there is a problem, or it will stay there forever?

I have checked the manual and the web site and didn't find any info. I guess if it doesn't eject the disc I'll have to take the top off. I would be 100% happy with my LG LDA-511 if it wasn't for the way it loads the disc.

Yeah, Iīm more and more intentioned on buying a tray loading one...
On another thread Ofbarea suggested me a Lite-On slimline, with slot loading... In CdrInfo sreview it say clearly that it has got no emergency eject hole...
It is a pity, slimline were already so few... And lately I saw that quite all slimline are slot loading.
Anyway, probably I will buy a big one. After al, I donīt move often, and this drive will be moved always or quite always with car, no flights...
    Weīll see...

Plextor are really good. I like them a lot, but, they are very expensive, and now that I live in Argentina, and Euro is 1:4 with pesos, considering also that i will very probably have to buy it from internet, and this means a 60% more on the cost for duty taxes, it is quite impossible for me to buy it...
    Pity...
