  1. I am trying to burn a movie with DVD Shrink and I get this weird error message that I have never seen before.

"Invalid DVD navigation structure" What does this mean? This is the "Underworld: Evolution"
    movie.

... and just to enhance your knowledge, DVDShrink itself does not / cannot burn - it is a transcoder. It uses Nero, DVDDecrypter or CopyToDVD to do the burning.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. yeah jim, I meant transcode and then nero automatically. I have read different posts. Some say use DVD Fab Decrypter, then VobBlanker (which I have no clue what it is) then DVD Shrink. Others says just use DVD Fab Decrypter then DVD Shrink.

But some say DVD Fab Decrypter is no longer updated so its no good? I havent had problems with it so far. The only problem was when I was trying to copy a Disney movie, I used DVD Fab Decrypter then used DVD SHrink to "open file" and it gave me this message - Invalid data in file .... \video_ts\vts_01_1.VOB " NO CLUE WHAT THAT IS.

DVDDecrypter is the one that's not longer updated. DVDFab Decrypter is updated regularly, and a new version was released just a few days ago. You can use Fab on most all of the newer DVDs. There may be a few that require some additional steps.

  5. redwudz,

do u have any clue as to what the INVALID DATA IN FILE 1.vob means? This is after I use DVD Fab Decrypter and DVD Shrink to open the file.

Someone suggest RipIt4Me, any luck on this software?

  6. For a completely free solution, use RipIt4Me. It makes use of the old stand-bys DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink and then throws in FixVTS and combines the three.

It does not matter to RipIt4Me that DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink are no longer updated. They are still very useful even for the most recent copy protected titles. RipIt4Me uses the constantly updated FixVTS to clean up the rip made by DVD Decrypter before importing to DVD Shrink. It's all done in an easy to follow, automated process.

Since using RipIt4me, I have ceased regularly using the sledgehammer called DVDFab Decrypter. True, DVDFab Decrypter can get by most all copy protection, but it ignores so many errors that you really can't tell if you have a good disc until you actually play it. I've gotten a few so called "good rips" with it only to find out that the files were still a little flakey. I now will only use DVDFab Decrypter on very stubborn or scratched discs.

  7. Rowman,

When I use RiptIt4Me (in Wizard mode), it asks me in the second step to create a PSL file. Not familiar with this.

If I use 1-Click mode, the second step will ask me to find FixVTS. Whats all this about? What mode to use?

  8. The PSL file will be made by RipIt4Me. This file will give information to DVD Decrypter on how to best rip the DVD.

When using the Wizard mode, it sounds like you don't have FixVTS installed.

Check out this guide. Make sure you follow it exactly and don't skip over anything.

    jyeh74,

Once you get your ripping problem straightened out (with RowMan's help), you might want to take a look at this. It's a modification of DvdShrink that lets you automatically burn with ImgBurn (from within DvdShrink). redwudz is the one who posted about it (in another thread), and he has verified that it works with the new version of ImgBurn.

  10. rowman,

Actually, in the 1-Click mode, it asks me for the FixVTS. But in the Wizard Mode, it asks me to create a PSL file, which I dont know what it is.

  11. The guide will really explain the procedures better than I can.

Especially if you've used DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink in the past, this is a really easy to follow guide.

  12. which mode do u use? wizrd or 1-click? seems like depending on which one u use, u have to install or use different things. ill take a look at it. thanks

  13. The 1-Click mode pretty much does all the work for you except for you telling the program where to put the files. You just need to be sure that you have the latest versions of the programs RipIt4Me needs.

  14. Ok, DVD Fab Decrypter (latest version) finished it no problem. When I use DVD Shrink to "open file" it gives me an error message of :

"failed to open file D:\UNDERWORLD_EVOLUTION\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB. The system cannot find the file specified."

I look into the Viedo TS folder and it only has a VIDEO_TS.VOB file and a VTS_01_0.VOB file. I think usually there are a lot more files than that. What's the problem?

    jyeh74,

Taking first things first, the problem you're having with Underworld: Evolution is because that dvd uses state of the art copy protection, which is intentionally messing up your rip. When you try to load the bad rip into DvdShrink, it can't handle all the problems it sees, so it puts up an error message, and refuses to work. If you get a clean rip to load into DvdShrink, your DvdShrink problems will go away.

DvdDecrypter, by itself, can't defeat the copy protection on this dvd. Despite what DvdFab Decrypter is telling you, it's obviously not succeeding either. To defeat the copy protection on this disk, and get a clean rip, you should use RipIt4Me.

In order for RipIt4Me to work, you must have another program named FixVTS on your computer. It sounds like you currently don't have FixVTS on your computer. Click here to download FixVTS in a zip file. When the download is done (almost instantly), unzip it, and put it somewhere you can remember.

Start RipIt4Me, and use the 1-Click mode. When RipIt4Me asks where FixVTS is, show it where you put the FixVTS you downloaded and unzipped. Let RipIt4Me continue until it's done, and the rip is opened in DvdShrink. At that point, just do whatever you were going to do in DvdShrink.

The guide tells you everything you need to know. Heck, it even blows your nose for you ...
