First try a high quality brand of media (Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden), and see if that helps. If not, it could just be that your laser in your burner is wearing out. You might try one of the cd/dvd lens cleaning cd's and see if it makes any difference.

    bionickaren:

Not all of the standalone set-top DVD recorders are built to the same quality specs, or with quality componentry. I have had great success using Phillips recorders/players, or my PC, to produce DVDs. If a laser cleaning doesn't work, then compatibility between recording media, or the units themselves, is the issue. Here is a good read on that:

  4. Its not the media. But rather the bitrates, Panny recorders create DVDs that stick or pause when played on certain players.

What do you base your claim on? Bitrate has nothing to do with it. All DVD players/recorders should be able to play 10080kb/s sustained maximum bitrate with video/audio combined. If these players can't sustain such bitrate, then they are not DVD compliant and should not carry the DVD logo. So basically, if someone made a DVD with 9800kb/s CBR video and 256kb/s AC-3 Audio(9800+256=10056kb/s), this should play on all players. Try different media, Fuji TY or Maxell made in japan, if you can find it.

A number of people have brought me discs (home movie transfers) recorded for them with older Panasonic recorders that would not play in their players (although they worked fine in mine). I ran them thru DVDShrink, reauthored to remove the menu, trimmed a bit and then burned them a new copy, on MCC discs. The new disc would now play for them.
