Anyone wish to chime in on the benefits of a DVD camcorder over a miniDV camcorder? With my experiences, MPEG2 and hand held camcorder footage don't mix too well. Or am I missing something here, since these DVD models seem to be the current rage?

I can only think of one advantage. You can hand a DVD playable small DVD to someone on the spot. Everything else vs. MiniDV is a disadvantage.

When these were introduced. Sony stated that this is a consumer format intended for people who don't intend to edit their video on the computer. It's intended for shoot and play at less than DV quality.

The same with the HDD based consumer camcorders. The quality is sub-mini DV (in fact, sub-DVD in most cases), and useless for editing and other uses.

The current rage with who? The neighbours who get to brag about the latest camcorder?
Take the above advice, and stick with a decent quality MiniDV camcorder..
At least you can buy a settop DVD burner (with firewire input of course) later on, and burn better quality DVD's from a MiniDV camcorder than a DVD camcorder ever will..

    Good luck!!!
