Ok...I am looking to do a little video editing. I have done this before with personal digital taped video, However..what I want to do know is take clips from my original DVD movies and splice them together with others (personal and other movies). I want to perserve the original 5.1 surround sound in the clips and picture quality. I know I would have to rip my movies to start the process, (not sure wich ripper would be the best for this) and what program to do the editing that would preserve the orginal video and audio format..oh..and I will be burning back onto a DVD. Thanks for any help...

You can rip out clips with DVD Shrink using the reauthoring mode, https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?guideid=502&howtoselect=6;30#502
Then add the clips together with your video with an authoring tool like tda.

You could also use anydvd as dvd ripper in the background and then import dvds directly in a dvd editor like tmpgenc dvd author, mpeg video wizard, videoredo.

Damn...I am lost. Here is what I did so far..I managed to use shrink DVD to make a backup of a movie (didnt want the whole movie, thought I un-checked what I didnt want, but it still did the whole disc) regardless..I saved the movie as files..now I have a video and audio folder (VOB files and such inside them) now I want to edit the movie...but I cant seem to get anything to recognize these files. Womble looks nice...but it requires it to be an MPEG file...wich shrink dosent save as. Again...very noobish to this dvd ecoding stuff...on editing I should be fine (once I get to that point)..just getting the movie to rip to a format to a file that I can edit while preserving the orginal audio format (5.1) and video seems to be my trouble.

  7. First of all when using DVDShrink->Reauthor untick subtitles(very few editors can handle them) and only select one audio track,if you want to save clips use Start/End.You can also use DVDDecrypter->File Mode->Stream Processing.
Then use TDA,NeroVision Express 2+,etc to edit and make menus. There are very few free authoring apps that can handle VOB'sVDShrink and VOBEdit come to mind.

EDIT:Just saw that you got Womble to work...good luck.
