use dvdfab decrypter to rip files to your hard drive then use dvd shrink. dvd decrypter and dvd shrink are no longer updated so use dvdfab decrypter. if your dvdrom/dvd burner can only rip a dual layer disc at 8x spd that would be why it takes so long to rip to the hard drive.

DVDShrink is no longer updated (since around July 2004 IIRC). This means that it can't handle any newer protections.

DVDFab Decrypter or AnyDVD are pretty much the two most popular choices for decryption and are constantly updated to bypass new protections.

But you need to ascertain if it is the newer copy protections, or a dirty or damaged disc that is the reason why DVDshrink is not ripping properly. This would certainly explain why DVDFab Decrypter takes so long.

Of course no-one will ever know if you don't post the exact error message(s) you receive from DVDShrink
    If in doubt, Google it.

Or if you're short on harddrive space and don't want to copy the files and then shrink them you can get anydvd. Though you have to buy it but it will let you use dvdshrink with any disc and shrink it straight without ripping than shrinking. Just an alternative.

But the free way of dvdfabdecrypter then dvdshrink is an excellent way to do it

  5. Don't forget the new free back-up sensation that's sweeping the nation...

    RipIt4Me

It uses a combination of the old standards DVD Decrypter, FixVTS, and DVD Shrink in a very easy to use and automated process. It's a fairly new tool, but it has worked perfectly for me so far.
