    I bought a used DR-4 and I don't have a manual for my it.
When I insert a DVD-RW it seems to try to load it but then tells me to go to the disc maintainence menu to format it but all I see in the setup menu is a selection to format DVDRAM and that doesn't work.

Also, How do I set up a schedule for recording a program?
When I press the button for timer recording on the remote it does nothing.

  2. To format an RW, press quick menu, then select disc management, then format disc. To program a timer recording, press easynavi and select timer recording. If the recorder is off when it starts the timer recording, it will shut off when it's done, if it's on when it starts recording, it will stay on. You can make it shut off or stay on by pressing quick menu after the recording starts and selecting auto power off or constant on I think it's called.

I checked and I don't have those buttons that you mentioned on my remote.
My remote doesn't look like the one in the manual either.

  5. I operate mine with a One For All 8910. It had to be upgraded over the phone, and if you want all functions of the original, you need to have them e-mail advanced functions, which they will do if you ask. You can get one at Amazon for $10 if you want a referb, $17 new.

I have 2 D-R4s and 2 remotes, if you want the original remote, PM me.

What's the model number supposed to be on the original remote?

I'm new at this, so I apologize in advance if I'm doing it wrong. I can tell that you have the same DVD Recorder as the one I just purchased on Ebay. It did not come with a remote. So I thought I would ask you if it can be operated without one? My previous DVD player had a VCR combo and I was able to connect it without using the red, yellow, white connections, I just used regular cable to connect to my satellite dish receiver. Should this one be able to connect the same way? My TV is an older model that doesn't have those connections... I downloaded a manual from the internet, but all the instructions deal with using the remote which I don't have... When I attempted to connect it with the cable wires I could not get a picture to show on my TV. The DVD Recorder came on, but it did not show on my TV. Am I doing something wrong, or did I buy a lemon?

  8. If the TV doesn't have line inputs, you need an RF modulator. You can't use the recorder without the remote. You can use the universal a few posts up if you get it upgraded over the phone. If you want all the functions of the original remote, you'll have to get them to e-mail advanced functions.

Thank you! I will try it on another TV with line inputs and see if it works there.
