  1. I am making a dvd from some video I shot. I am using DVDauthorgui to make my own menu. All the videos and menu are in 16:9 format. When I play my DVD in my computer all is well. When I put it in my player it is shown in 4:3 aspect. I opened IFOEdit and it shows the videos in 16:9. What I am I doing wrong?

  2. Hi-

Open the DVD in PGCEdit. Double-click the video. In the new screen that opens, in the lower-left corner, click on "Current Domain Stream Attributes". In the new small Stream Attributes screen, does it still say 16:9 for the video? If it does, then maybe your standalone DVD player is set up wrong. Just a guess.

  3. The 'normal' version of dvdauthor sets the stream attributes for 16:9 content to 'letterbox AND pan&scan" by default (my special dvdauthor version which is included in GfD sets the stream attributes to 'letterbox only').

    1. You can configure your SA Player to use 'letterbox only' (all SA DVD players have such a setting).
    2. You can use my dvdauthor version (can be found here: https://www.videohelp.com/~gfd/edcounter.php?file=download/dvdauthor_winbin.zip )
    3. You can set the stream attributes with ifoedit or pgcedit to 'letterbox only'
(In Ifoedit doubleclick on the 4. line beginning with 'Video: MPEG-2...' and untag the 'Automatic Pan&Scan' in the 'Static' settings. You need to do this for all Ifo files)

  4. Oh, so I didn't go far enough in my attempt to help, borax? When checking using PGCEdit, he'll probably see both 16:9 Letterbox and 16:9 Pan-And-Scan ticked? I was thinking that he'd see 4:3 ticked and he'd just have to change it to 16:9.

If the 2 16:9 boxes are ticked, then OK your way back to the main screen, look at the row of icons across the top and find the one of a green reel of film and click on it. In the new Stream Attributes screen untick the 16:9 Pan-And-Scan box, leaving just the 16:9 Letterbox one ticked. OK your way back to the main screen and Save.

    I think.

I think so. As I also got some 'complaints' about this behaviour of dvdauthor, I changed it in my own compile.
    Let's see what scottoinkingsburg reports...
