    Hi,

I'm a UPS newbie. I'm looking for a unit that will provide a few minutes of backup power and will also clean or condition the incoming power. Any recommendations? Is power cleaning a standard feature of a UPS and is there an industry term I should be looking for such as "line conditioner" or something?

    Thanks.

UPS units come in many different types. To get the very best if required you will need to specify a full
time converter..This unit rebuilds the supply to your computers and or hifi gear the whole time it is
switched on. Lesser units only rebuild the supply when the AC supply is missing. The price between the
    two types is noticable!
The lesser units will of course provide line filtering and conditioning at all times. If a "pure" supply is needed then the full time convertor version should be specified.

    I use ones from Cyberpower.
They have voltage regulation while most APC units do not.

Do yourself a favor and buy one of the $100 units, not one of the $40 ones.

The "minutes" on the box lie. Those $40 units usually give maybe 5 minutes at most. The more expensive ones can give you a good half hour or more.
