Since installing a new sound card (SoundBlaster Audiology ZS Platnium) I am experiencing sound stutter and video artifacts (occasional vertical lines).
I am using an ATI all in wonder card, and ATI multimedia center 9.08..
I had been using the same card and I believe the same version of the multimedia center for about 6 months but I was using an onboard sound card (I know bad idea).
I got some great tips from these forums starting out, and with the help from digitalfaq.com (guides) I was capturing like mad. The problem was that the sound was not up to par, it was very hollow.
I purchased the audiology and spent about 3 weeks trying to get the system back to the point where I was before the new sound card. Finally today I was able to capture both video and sound, however..
The short clips (about 3 mins for testing) have had sound stutter throughout and odd white lines (much like tracking issues from a vcr except they are vertical instead of horizontal). The sound stutter is fairly constant, but I do not think it is a sync problem because its more lost sound, then out of sync sound. The video issue is sporatic. always occuring at the same time as the sound stutter but it does not happen every time I have the sound stuttering (so it might be coincidence).
I did have to reformat the Windows partition of the main drive to reinstall the ATI software as I had issues with it not wanting to uninstall.
My source is PVR (DISH), which is connected to the tv and then to the computer. It worked ok before, video was good (although not great) and the sound was as I mentioned earlier.
The only hardware change was the sound card. The other reason I got the audiology is because I want to eventually capture from my laserdisc player, as I have a few disc's showing early signs of laserrot and I would like to make copies before they bite the dust. So I wanted to be able to capture AC 3 sound and DTS.
Right now I would at least like to get back to where I was as my letterman episodes are backing up on my pvr rapidly.
I am using 2 harddrives, one is partitioned. Drive 1 has windows on a partition and all the apps on the other partition. The second drive is just for the video capture/edit.
On a side note (may or may not be related) since reinstalling the ati software I can nolonger watch video clips on my tv from my computer, unless I am watching them from the ati multimedia center player. I usually use VLC but when I do now it just shows black on the tv for the video but the sound is fine. It is however playing fine on the computer at the same time. I do not know if this could be related or not, but with computers you never know.
I tried to include everything so as to help track down the problem, but am sure I have left out something.
Thank You
