  1. I bought a BENQ 1655 awhile back, and I notice that it has a problem with my DVD-R media (TYG02 & Ritek G05). When I'm done burning an image file, I don't get a match on sizes (img to disc size) like I do when I burn in my Pioneer 109. It does fine on +R media, but my primary choice is -R. Is this normal? I've tried upgrading the FW, but still the same problems. It also has problems reading some of my store-boughts when I do backups.

Now I've heard a lot of good things regarding BENQ and their burners (the reason I bought it), so do I just have a bum unit? I'd hate to think I now have a new $40+ dollar paperweight (it's too late to return it to the store).

    Any help would be appreciated.

My 1620Pro liked/likes +R media much better as well....latest firmware and all. I've just accepted it as fact. It is not a terrible drive but both my LG's(including my old 4040B) are better drives...at least on my computer anyway.

Have you considered using +R media and use the bit setting feature of the Benq to set booktype to DVD-ROM? That's what I do with my NEC burner to get maximum compatibility, and it's the only way I can get my LiteOn standalone created disks to play on some DVD players. I record on RW media on the LiteOn and then use DVDDecrypter iso read and iso write to copy to DVD-ROM using +R media on the NEC burner.
