no such thing as a hdmi clip == you must mean HD ..

unless you have a HD-DVD or blueray player or one that can play HD VC1 or HDCD .... you can not play HD clips in a set top box .

if you convert the divx clips to dvd - they will not be HD anymore ... and are you even sure the source files are really HD ?

That is the drag of it all. When I bought my new Philips player, I assumed wrongly that it would play the HD divx files I had downloaded off the divx site.

I guess the only way to do this is to use the video out from your video card to your HDTV?

ATI boasts that their new HDTV tuner card will record and burn HDTV to DVD and CD but I assume that that's to play through the media PC which seems to be the route alot of people are going with home theatre.

The HD DivX files I've seen are amazing on a 19" monitor and I bet they still look pretty good on a 61 inch HDTV.

The Toshiba HD-XA1 and HD-A1 HD DVD models dont play DiVX HD as far as I know ... are you not sure you dont have a toshiba upconverting model instead ?

to make a HD DVD , you would need a HD DVD burner and media , currently about a $1000 for the burner..

no such thing as a HD VCD

what model toshiba do you have - otherwise this is turning into a guessing game ....

the pioneer dv-490v has a lot of problems with divx files ... nor will it play divx hd files ...

you can convert the divx hd files to divx sd and see if they play -- or not ..

or you can convert them to normal mpeg2 dvd format ...

any of the options above will reduce quality GREATLY......
