Hoping for some advice on this one. I'm trying to help my wife with a project she's working on for her master's. In the project she needs to take clips from several different movies and burn them all together onto one dvd to show in class. The completed disc needs transitions, etc to break up clips, along with possibly text to identify the different movies, etc etc.

    Two questions:
(1.) What is the best software can I use to extract/rip the clips at dvd quality, and what format is best to manipulate them?

(2.) What software should I use to compile the clips and burn them onto dvd? I have Pinnacle Studio Plus 10.5 - would this do the trick? (I'm assuming yes.)

I'm am not a newbie to computers (I work in computer repair services for a major co.), but I am relatively new to dvd ripping and manipulation. Thanks for the help and advice!

There are hundreds or thousands of options. The way that *I* would tackle this is with MPEG Video Wizard DVD by Womble (site link). This is not a cheap program, but you can try it free for 30 days. It will do everything you need. It's fast and, IMHO easy to use.

Womble can extract the clips from any UNencrypted dvd, do all the edits and transitions you want and burn the resulting dvd you want.

If you need to rip from encrypted dvds, I suggest AnyDVD by Slysoft (site link). It makes any encrypted dvd appear to be unencrypted to your operating system and all programs. It is also available as a 30 day free trial.

There is lots of good free software which will do what you want. However, over the years I've paid for programs like Womble and AnyDVD because they just work. No bs. Help available if needed. To me worth the money. It just depends on what you value more: time or money.

    Good luck.
