Does anyone know of any comparisons between compressing a movie with a program like InterVideo DVD Copy or converting it to DivX/XviD? I was originally planning to make backups of some of my DVDs with DivX since the new version can backup the whole things including menus and other things. Now I've thought about ripping/compressing them with InterVideo DVD Copy because it has a compression program that is supposed to be pretty good. Any suggestions?

Personally, I just use DVDShrink for backups, along with DVDFabDecrypter if needed. I burn with IMGBurn. No quality problem I have noticed.
Divx6 will get you smaller file sizes, if that's what you really want. The quality depends on the settings used and the original quality of the DVD. But not many Divx players can use the menu features of Divx6. And Divx encoding will take quite a bit more time than DVDShrink transcoding. -
I'm not as concerned about file size as I am the quality of the backup. I'll just be using one disc per backup. There was a link on here in the guide section to a comparison on dvd.box.sk where someone tested different programs and DVDShrink didn't do so hot. It was an old review from 2004, though.
