i need to shrink the size of my file

Hi, I recorded an 11 second clip on my camcorder. I uploaded it to the computer and edited via Adobe Premiere Pro. The resulting file was 41.7 mb and was in the file format avi. I need the file to be less than 10 mb so I converted the avi to mpeg and the result was a clip that is 10.5 mb. I am trying to upload it to a website but its over the file size limit. I was wondering if anyone knew how to cut the size of the video file even more. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

correct me if I'm wrong guys, but it sounds like you're outputting raw avi instead of encoded, making the file bigger than nesicarry. I'm not sure how to change it as I've had/am having the same problem with my projects.

lower the bitrate of the mpg encoder and try again. anything over 3000kbps will look fine for most projects in mpeg2.

41.7 MB is about right for an 11 second DV AVI clip. You could recompress it into DivX or Xvid @ about 1500kbps with mp3 audio @ 256kbps to give you a file about 2.5 MB

import it into windows movie maker and save it from there
you can compress the file into anyting you want
and from there on you can choose the size..also quality is awesome

Would it still be myfile.avi if i i recompressed it into DivX or whatever or would it change to myfile.divx? Also, how would I go about recompressing it?

Use VirtualDub to recompress.
Open your AVI in VirtualDub, click on "video" on VirtualDubs toolbar, select "Full Processing Mode" and "Compression" and choose DivX, then configure the codec to whatever bitrate you choose.
Then "audio" on the toolbar, full processing mode -> compression -> mp3 and choose your sample rate and bitrate.
Save as AVI
Make sure you have the DivX or Xvid codec installed on your computer.
The file will still be an *.AVI
