I ripped a DVD that had an extraction size of 7.63GB. It's too large of a file to burn onto a DVD. What can I do? I think I need to compress the file? If so, how do I do that without having to buy any software. Thanks.

Surely the price of a dual layer blank dvd is not to prohibitive today that you need to worry about compressing..

Trying use a great program like PGCEdit to remove unnecessary product from the original rip and you may get inside the 4.7 GB
limitation of a single layer... IFOedit can also remove not needed audio and subtitle information from your movie title...reducing the final
product to its minimum before you need to compress with DVD Shrink or similar..

  3. Hey, why don't you use a dual layer disc, plenty of room, no need to do anything with the DVD files, just burn them to the disc.

    DVD2OneX v2.1.3 (Mac OS X 10.3.9) / v2.3.1 (Mac OS X 10.4+) will requantize (and burn) for € 39.99
Toast (Mac OS X 10.5.x+) will requantize (and burn) for $ 79.99
Popcorn (Mac OS X 10.4.1+) will requantize (and burn) for $ 49.99

I don't think there is a free DVD Shrink-like program for Mac OS X.

If removing unwanted audio tracks, special features, trailers, etc. does not get the filesize down to the point where the content would fit on a DVD5 blank, another option is to use ffmpegx. The registered version has a requantizer that will shrink a video to fit. It's probably the least expensive pure-Mac option for doing this.

If you have the ability to run Windows apps, then there are many more free options.
