I authored a short DVD video using the TMPGEnc DVD authorer. I used TMPGEnc to convert a .mov file to DVD mpeg format and then compiled a DVD.

It worked just fine on my pc and after burning it to DVD disc, it also worked just fine on my pc DVD player. However, when I tried it out on two separate DVD players connected to my TV, the video came out all choppy, with frame skips and freeze frames. Pretty much impossible to watch. What could be the reason for this?

You forgot to mention the media and burn speed you are using ... without this information no one can give you a defined answer to the issue ...

1: Your topset dvd player's may only support dvd-r .
    2: Burn at 4x only
3: Poor media ... not all work well with different device's .

Remember ... a pc will play anything ... topset unit's will not (including ps2 / xbox)

    --------------------

As for tmpgenc ... it had issue's from day one ... and still dose ...

Oh sorry, well I did burn at 4x. I used a Samsung Pleomax DVD+RW disc.

If topset DVD player have trouble with some discs, how is it that commercial DVD movies never have compatibility problems?

Hmm it might be. I don't know a thing about bitrates. How would I know what the right rate is?
