Hi
I have a DVD recorder and I think the burner in it is dying soon, It can't detect any dvd discs, (be it blanks or movies) but it has no problem with vcd movies disc. I was just wondering, how different is the burner in standalone dvd recorder different from PC dvd burner.
I have opened up the recorder and found that the cables (IDE and power cables) that are connecting the burner to the circuit board look similar to PCs.
Can I just buy a PC DVD burner and just plug it in?
Thank for any help in advance.

You may want to try going the other way - take the burner out and connect it to your PC. You can then see if it's the burner or some other component that is dying.

Some DVD drives will work in certain recorders. Here's a link to some info about ILO drives . Good Luck
