Wow they are going all out. Apparently they are going to offer swedish meatballs to people who camp out before the wednesday opening.

I'm sure I'll walk through it once its open. But its still just a store, isn't it??

I remember when they opened the one in Schaumburg. It was like an ad blitz. Everywhere and almost every commercial was about IKEA. Then it just faded away. The last time I heard about IKEA was when they were thinking about opening one up in Chicago. That never materialized.

Ikea is a great store for people like me......university students who need to furnish their first apartment /dorm room/cardboard box. You can furnish an entire apartment at Ikea for pretty cheap. And yes, the swedish meatballs are good too

IKEA have some very good products, they are designed well and not expensive. I bought a TV cabinet from them, not because it was cheap, but because it looked better than any other I could find.
My wife actually fitted out the kitchen with their stuff. (But she's an IKEA junkie)

Have to agree with both Grimey and tweedledee - Most of their stuff is just particle board (and pretty cheap) but they do have some nicer, practical, stuff.

Ikea is probably worth the trouble - but not worth all the hype.

I bought a couch from them (2 seater couch). It came in boxes and I had to assemble it. I was able to fit all the boxes in my car (although I did remove the back seats for extra room, just to make sure). And yes, it's a nice couch and seems to be made with good parts (I like that it has a steel frame). I wouldn't cam out for it though. One of the things I also like about IKEA is that they carry stuff for smaller houses.

Wow they had backups on the freeway exits to the store!

They even had a local band playing at 6am before the store opened. There have been people in line since Monday morning! Thats all thats been on the news the last few days.

Don't use a big word when a diminutive one will suffice.

Wow, the language content here. The superfluous use of english diction is becoming dubiously antediluvian.

The biggest moron fest I've seen in a while was caused by an Ikea opening. Camping out is stupid, be it for concerts, movies, store openings, etc.

Hmmmmm ..... some conflicting reports here.

I don't mind IKEA for practical things - I have a 5 seater L couch, 3 glass-front display cabinets and 5 x 210 CD Tower units from them and I'm quite happy to pay a lower price with the caveat that I have to assemble it myself. They also had a really cool "walk-through" showroom at their St Kilda store, which really allows you to see their goods in typical home settings, and not just in the open on the showroom floor.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    St Kilda store,
Don't you mean Moorabbin Store? The new Richmond store is even bigger and better.

    yes, I meant Moorabbin.

Yep, been to the Richmond one as well. Took a 12ft tandem trailer up there through the carpark and all to collect the couch, then drove back thru the CBD to Ballarat with it !
    If in doubt, Google it.

Camping out for game/concert tickets can be quite lucrative. Movies--completely retarded. As for store openings, I saw this one on the news. I figured there was potential for being entered for a pretty good prize or something. As it happenes, some of these lucky individuals might win up to $10 gift certs. What a bunch of tards.

My wife stood in line for a Black-Friday sale at JC Penney where they were handing out $100 gift cards to the first 100 people. They do it here locally every year. My wife got a card for the first time last year, because she found out the year before that even though the store opens at 8am, people are camping out as early as 4am. My wife got there at 4:45am and she was around #80. She wouldn't have done it if there was something major going on, but she was gonna sit around the house that day anyway. I think it's cool she got $100 for doing nothing.

She said it was attached to a chocolate bar. And it's a $100 less I have to give to JC Penney for that month.

I don't spend a thing at JC Penney. It's the wife. Can you imagine if there was an IKEA near by. THere's one near a relative of hers in CA. This is why I hate going to CA.

And there are a few months where it's not over $100. I know nobody else that has a JC Penney Platinum Preferred Customer charge card. It's got a decent rate compared to the standard cards at least. I freak out when a card rate is over 5 or 6%. THe standard JCP Cards are >21%. WTF?

    It gets worse...........

Man stabbed in riot at Ikea opening sale

A police spokeswoman said the stabbing occurred at about 1.30am and the victim, a man in his 20s, was in a stable condition.

A London ambulance spokesman said: "Six adult patients were treated and taken to hospital, three each to North Middlesex and Whipps Cross hospitals.

"Of these, one man had been stabbed and another patient was experiencing chest pains.
Last September, three men were trampled to death in a rush to claim vouchers when Ikea opened its first store in Saudi Arabia.
    Regards,

    Rob

What's the firecode for maximum occupancy in a place like that? You'd think they'd have had a velvet rope and a proper line for such an occurance.

You'd think with a demand like that, they'd open another store.
