    Hi,

    I'm new at this so i was just wondering if it is mandatory to author the mpeg before i burn it?
    I mean willl the dvd player still play if i just burn the mpeg file and not the .vob files..

    Authoring is required. Otherwise it is not a DVD-Video format disc. And it will not play. "DVD players" are really "DVD-Video players".

    If you're looking to create a DVD-Video disc (possibly with menus and everything) that's playable in many (or more than one, at least) standalone DVD players, then you'll have to re-author.

    There are a number of standalone players (like my Philips DVP-642 and older Apex 1100W) that can play MPEG files straight from a data DVD/CD, along with DivX/Xvid, etc. But I'd (IMHO) tend to want to create a DVD-Video disc anyway.
    If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
