I haven't run out of 8X discs yet, so I was a leetle bothered to read a post on another forum about 8X discs disappearing from the market and 16X discs not working right in the Lite-On 5005

They should all be backwards compatible.
If you're having any problem do you have the latest firmware for your drive??
Also depending on your peronal budgets new 16x dual layer burners are going for as little as $35 on websites like newegg and tigerdirect. So upgrading is not as painful as it used to beDonatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I have the LiteOn 5005 which I reverted to older firmware (to retain certain functions), and I have had no problems burning Verbatim 16x DVD+Rs. *I have not tried 16x DVD-Rs though, so I don't know if they cause any problems.

Thanks guys! just fyi- I called HP (discs I've been happy with) and got right thru to India in record time
They are so big they don't even know they sell blank media. After a while I got the answer that 8X media are history, so if you do need'em & find'em, better buy'em now.
