So I have this dvd that has over 3 hours of video on it, all great quality, only 3 chapters, i believe 5 optional subtitles, and about a 30 second high quality animated menu with great sound. On top of all that, it's a 4.7GB disc.
I've been trying for a while, tweaking the resolution, frame-rate, bitrate and stuff and I just can't duplicate it. I can burn about 90 minutes NTSC with a non-animated menu, and medium quality video. Is there a way I can scan the disc to see what settings were used to burn it so I can find out how to pack that much onto one disc? Or does anyone know how to do that? I've been using Nero's burning software because it came with my burner. I realize its probably not the best, but I didn't think that would impact what I can fit, just how many features I would have.
Thanks to any who respond, I really appreciate it.

A couple of programs you could try to get some info on the DVD: DVD Bit Rate Viewer and MediaInfo. There are probably others.

    And welcome to our forums.

Don't forget the latest GSpot Beta (V2.52) to use on one of the VOB files.

    I'm guessing that Half D1 (352 x 480) and 23.976fps (with 3:2 pulldown) was probably used.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Nice guess, jim. You were close. The intro video, menu and credits were encoded at Full D1(720x480) at 29.97fps and 8000kbps andthen the actual "movie" was encoded at 352x240, 29.97fps and 1200kbps.
Thanks for the help guys! This will definitely help me out with future projects!
