  1. Hi,

I know how to encode one mp4 file to xvid using a guide I've found on the internet.
It uses virtualdub and avisynth. But nowhere can I find info about batch encoding.
Does anyone know if it's possible and if so how to do it?

    thank you very much

Virtualdub has it's own batch function called Job Control. I don't see any reason why you couldn't just load up your avisynth script, set your settings and then when you go to Save as AVI, tick this box down the bottom:

Repeat for each MP4 file you wish to convert. Once you have loaded everything up, go to File > Job Control, and press the Start button at your leisure.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Why reencode at all? It's MP4. Just change the fourCC to read Xvid. You're losing quality otherwise.

edit: MP4Cam2AVI can probably do the job for you automatically (maybe even batch)

  4. Thank you so much. I never knew you could do it this way with virtualdub.

I know reencoding will lose quality but I like to watch it on my divx dvd player. And unfortunately it doesn't support mp4.

Now, see, THERE'S the information that we needed that you didn't give us earlier.

    You've got a divx-capable DVD player.

This means you can read files from the plain filesystem, probably using the AVI (or divx) container and extension. Codecs that will work will depend on the player, but most will decode any close variant of MPEG4 part 1 or 2 (incl. Divx, Xvid, 3ivx, MP4).

True, but you could also just answer the question as written in the first place

I guessed that XVID was "known good" in this case.
    If in doubt, Google it.
