  1. I have installed the ASPI file that was suggested yesterday to me here (post dissapeared) but my ripping speed still is LOW LOW LOW, I am only getting 1.3x indicated on the DVD speed within SmartRipper.
I have a 1.4 Ghz Athlon machine w/ 500 MB ram and 2 FAST drives in Raid-0 config, using a Pioneer 16X DVD drive....what could the problem be?

  2. I've never ripped in a Raid configuration, so can't be sure about that, but have you made sure your VIA drivers are the latest ?

  3. Hi,

DVD-Roms rip at different speeds, my LiteOn LTD-163 16x rips at about 8.3x, my Toshiba 1402 was about 2x.

  4. KennyC, Toshiba are basicly crap, that's why they rip at 2x, you should consider yourself lucky, most Toshiba's barely reach a 1.2x speed

  5. GO TO THE AMD WEBSITE AND GET THE CHIPSWET DRIVER PACK,THERES A IDE MASTER BUS DRIVER THAT WILL INCREASE YOUR RIP SPEED.

  6. This reminds me of how some CD drives are great for ripping audio while
others are pokey. Just because a CDROM drive is rated at 52X doesn't
mean it can rip audio at 52X... it may only rip at 16X.

    Just my two cents...

I cannot find anything on the AMD site that relates to the "CHIPSWET" driver pack you refer to, somebody else refered to having DMA enabled for my pioneer drive? how do I do that ? sorry for seeming lame but....maybe I just am?

  8. THE RIPPER, You can't install a chipset driver for someone that the AMD isn't it's chipset, like those who have VIA or ALi chipset.

Phreakster, Which Windows do you have ? i'm not sure how to do this in 2k/Xp, but in 9x just go to Device Mananger and use the properties on your DVD drive, and you can enable it there, i'd also recommand enabling Data Sync.

  9. HEY SEFY,ACTUALLY THE AMD DRIVER PACK THAT I'M TALKING ABOUT AUTOMATICALLY DETECT WHAT CHIPSET YOU HAVE AND INSTALLS THE FILES YOU NEED.THERE'S A DRIVER IT INSTALLS THATS A IDE MASTER BUS DRIVER,I'M ASSUMING THIS IS THE ONE THAT INCREASED THE RIP SPEED.

  10. I was ripping at 1.3x, and I upgraded to Windows xp and I have been ripping at about 8.3x. That was the only thing I changed!

  11. Nope, sorry, if it doesn't detect AMD Chipset on your board, it will not install, I know, I have that Driver Pack

  12. Phreakster, you were informaed correctly that DMA must be enabled to get decent speeds.

To do this in Win98/ME, right-click My Computer, go to Properties, then Device Manager and expand CDROM, then double-click your DVD drive. Go to the settings tab and check DMA.

Under Win2k, right-click My Computer, go to the Hardware tab and click Device Manager. Expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, and depending on which IDE channel your DVDROM is on, double-click that channel, go to the Advance Settinga tab, and set the correct device's (Device 0 being master, 1 being slave) Transfer Mode to "DMA if available".

Reboot. If you have the same Pioneer 16x DVDROM as me (DVD-116), you'll get 13x rip speed or better. Enjoy

  13. Hey Guys thanks for the help but still no luck, Iam on a PC running WinXP, with a Pioneer DVD-106 (not a 116) I was able to access the ATA settings in device manager and tried to make "device 0" use DMA but it still registers (in the window after restart) PIO the other device addresses that I guess refer to the Hard Drives
? or my LiteOn CD-RW (24102B) indicate it is running DMA, no matter what I do I cannot get device 0 to indicate DMA, after restart I immediately tried to rip a DVD and it is still at 1.4 MAX, what could the problem be ? Thanks for the help!!!!!!

  14. You must install a ASPI Layer and the latest IDE drivers for your mainboard, i've got the 106 drive myself, so I know it's a high performance drive.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT SEFY? YOU SHOULD MAKE YOUR POSTS MORE INFORMING THAN THAT. LISTEN KID, IF YOU WANT FASTER RIP SPEEDS YOU SHOULD AT LEAST TRY THE AMD DRIVER PACK,ITS NOT GONNA HURT YOUR SYSTEM.GO TO THE AMD SITE UNDER TECHNICAL RESOURCES,I'M ONLY TRYTO HEL YOU, EVEN THOUGH I'M DRUNK.

  16. Since you admited to be drunk i'll not pay attention to much to how you said it, and i'll repeat myself, try installing a driver that does not belong to the same chipset and it WILL cause damage, Windows might not even boot up after it! because those are IDE drivers you are talking about here!

ok i'm running WinME on a 550mhz p3 256ram 15gig hdd. The problem is that i can't run smart ripper.exe(i get the blue screen w/ WINDOWS PROTECTION ERROR), i have to run no-aspi.bat to get it to work. And i only get like 1-2x,( i have a 8x Samsung SD-608 dvd-drive,but i don't think it maxes out at 2x), so i downloaded and installed Force ASPI, but it still doesn't work. someone want to help me.

  23. Phreakster, as far as I remember, both 2000 and XP enable that settings by default, I think both Data Sync and DMA is active if it detects that your drive supports it.

It is quite true that if your MB allows for DMA (if it shows ATA-33, ATA-66 or ATA-100 during load), 200 and XP will automatically turn on DMA. I just did a fresh XP install, and out-of-the-box, DMA was on all my drives. Not one DVD-related program complained!

As for the comment made on Toshiba drives... I don't know if I can agree anymore... I had a Pioneer which crapped out, but even before I had problems, it still ripped at only 1.3x, no faster. I install a Toshiba drive of the same specs (6x speed MAX), and I get a consistant 3x to 5x all the time, with all decoding features enabled. Crap, you say?...

  25. homerpez, either you switched the names on the drives by accident, or you are the only human on the planet with a Toshiba drive that can rip beyond 1.x speed

If I can find a screen capture program someplace, I'll show you unretouched, photographic evidence.

This will propably be the only Toshiba in existance that can rip faster then 1.x, and even go above 2x speed

Sorry to rain on your parade but I usually get 7x with my Toshiba 1402, occasionally up to 9x. I've just reformated and reinstalled WinMe but I haven't reinstalled WinDVD yet so now I get 1x. Probably an ASPI-thing or something.

  29. Wataru, you are not ruining any parade of mine, i've seen over dozens of diffrent Toshiba's DVD, PC's and Laptops and non of them ever managed to get about max at 2x speed, not ever above!

Even you now some how lost the speed you miracly had, if you ever get it back, i'm very curious to know how.
