  1. I installed new ASPI http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_utils_5.shtml
and instead of 1x ripping speed on my Toshiba now I get average 6x with peaks of 9x. Happy happy, joy joy.

  2. Wataru, that is the same ASPI I always give people, I don't see what is so special, but enjoy your Toshiba!
You are amongst the few alive who can get it to rip beyong 2x!

  3. When I first got my Toshiba a year ago I didn't get more than 1x ripping speed until I went into my computers Bios and set it to Autodetect my drives. Don't know why it works that way but obviously it's more than a pure Windows-issue.

I have no idea about RAID config. But I had similar problem and solved it by connecting my DVD drive and HDD on different IDE channels (Ex. IDE 0 and IDE 1).

    Prabhu.

  5. Wataru, believe me, I went through every possible settings to try and boost the Toshiba's speed up, it was just more stubborn then me I guess, and yes, I also went into BIOS settings, the nice thing is, that just by replacing the drive to a Pioneer, bang, speed went up

  6. good thing i came here...i thought i was the only one having this type of problem...i have a sony dvd player...12x (forgot the model #), but just yesterday when i first ran smartripper, i was able to rip a movie in under 6 minutes...and today, with the same movie, i ran smartripper again and i'm getting no more than 1.3x. i did, however installed new softwares after smartripper, such as cd-r appz. ran aspichk and upgraded my aspilayer...that's what i did and now i'm stuck with a low, low ripping speed. when i change to dma mode for pio and run smartripper again, the speeds are much faster, but then it drops back down to 1.3x, and the setting is back to pio...i know i can get at least 9x on it since i ripped the same movie just yesterday with that speed. any ideas? should i install the amd patch? here are my sys specs:

    amd 1.4ghz
    asus a7m266
    winxp pro
    etc...

please help if you have any ideas...thanks

  7. I don't know if this will help, it propably won't, try checking your IDE cable connection, it's enough that the connection will even be slightly out of place, enough for it to work, but enough for it to reduce speed.

Even better would be to get a 80wire IDE Cable, they do miracle
