I shot an avi file using a fujifilm F601z digital camera which has a capture rate of 1Mb/sec and I am trying to load this into virtualdubmod.

I get the following message when I press Open.

"Couldn't load the decompressor for format 'dvsd' (unknown)
VirtualDub requires a VFW compatible codec do decompress.......'Only DirectStream is available for this video."

I haven't a clue what's going on here - no idea what a codec is either.

    Please help.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

  2. A codec is a "compressor-decompressor" and is a part of your computer's programs that knows how to convert your camera's AVI file into viewable images. There are two technologies commonly used in Windows video editing programs - "Video for Windows" (VFW) and "DirectShow". As standard, Windows comes with a codec for DirectShow for compressing/decompressing DV format (dvsd) images. You need a 3rd party DV decompressor for VFW.

You can get one free from Panasonic (start here: https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=193 )

We also sell a decompressor that works with DirectShow and VFW should the Panasonic one not meet your requirements ( https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=Enosoft_Enhanced_DV_Decoder ). It also has added features but I'd start with the free Panasonic one first.
