My father is in his early 50's. Up until now, he's remained relatively healthy, and hasn't really showed his age much. Recently though, I've been noticing an increase in the amount of... um... laxative devices in his bathroom. It's almost like overnight he took stock in the Fleet company (for those of you who don't know, Fleet makes several items relating to continence.). Is this what I have to look forward to? Should I start making up excuses to tell the girl in the checkout line when I have to buy a case of Fleet enemas and a big jar of Fleet suppositories? Is middle age like this for everyone?

Many health related problems may require the use of laxatives, specially with old men and women. The problem with enemas is that the body, after certain use, becomes dependable of them.
Some doctors prefer the use of fiber to correct disfunctions. No tengo miedo a la muerte. Solo significa soņar en silencio. Un sueņo que perdura por siempre. .. -

Based on the responses so far, I'm thinking my dad may be a little too interested in what comes out of his colon and the frequency at which it presents the contents.

sounds like he needs to make some dietary changes.
less meat and cheese, more fibre (fruits & veggies!)
I'll turn 33 next month -- about 3 years ago I started to have some serious, erm.... problems, down there. I won't go into the gory details, but after about 3 weeks of excruciating pain I went to the doctor.
30 is that magical age when you need your first visit to Dr. JellyFinger anyway, so the exam was prescribed.
The problem? Too much meat and cheese, not enough fibre!
Some relatively easy changes to my diet totally changed my life.
I still eat red meat and cheese every single day -- the key is moderation.

I am 36, and have never visited Dr Jellyfinger. And I hope it stays that way

you should get your prostate checked at age 30.
I know it's gross and it totally sucks, but it's just one of those things you need to do.
A recent report showed that men who live to the age of 95 have a 100% chance of getting prostate cancer. I doubt that I'll live that long, but those odds still suck.
If you wait until problems arise to get an exam, it's already to late. Prostate cancer is preventable, and although if caught early enough once it has set in it can be survivable -- what kind of life is that? I know that getting checked out is a necessary evil, but I was hoping to die in a car wreck first. (I am working up the courage)
Constipation has never been a problem for me, but for the other extreme, just smelling Pepto Bismol is like heaven in a bottle.
Joint pain is my biggest concern for the momentIS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -
