  1. Does anyone know of any programs that can do batch XVID 2 pass on a folder or selection of files(.avi)?

I have a large collection of AVI files and they are really large. At the moment to compress i have been using the batch in Virtualdub, but i have to manually go through and create two jobs for every file rather than just select the whole lot.

I have tried a number of programs to batch encode dvd's, the first "Avi.net" takes ages to setup(5 - 10 mins per dvd) and the second "Simpledivx" will not complete the xvid 2pass due to some bug. Can anyone make any recommendations?

  2. I've found a way with VirtualDub, using the process directory.... you select first pass, then process directory and select second pass, the process directory again, reorder all the jobs and that works but it's not optimal.... any other solutions would still be appreciated.

SimpleDiVX works fine for me. Check that you are getting the latest, 1.40.23. It's easy to download the wrong version as the site is poorly laid out. I d/l'ed 1.40.17 by mistake and it gave me all manner of problems. Also be sure you you have the current xvid codec, 1.10 and that your settings under Codec are correct.

You cna get the Film machine and do it.Just make sure they are the same codec or you code have some problems. You can do a 4 pass with tfm.Easy it also works with cce and some other codes plus it has a free codec with it and the quality is pretty good.

Doesn't SimpleDivX use mencoder for encoding? If so then it doesn't matter what XviD version is installed, since it will just use the internally linked one anyway.

mencoder is what I would use. Personally I would create a script, but using a GUI to set it up should be fine.
