Although it was working ok previously, my HDTV2DVD Vs.0.4 has started freezing when I drag/drop TS files into the asset window. I get an error message which says there is a "Code: 0xc0000005 problem with ffmpeg.exe"! To close, I have to "Ctrl-Alt-Delete" it.

I have already tried uninstall/reinstall of HDTV2DVD but it made no difference. I searched the OS for ffmpeg.exe files. Curiously, there are two in C:\Windows\ prefetch and one in the (D:\programs) HDTV2DVD installation folder.

Whats wrong & how can I fix it? Some help with this issue will be very much appreciated.
    Best regards, Richard

  2. First, you should get v0.41 (latest) and give that a try. From the sticky thread:

    Thanks MaxBlack for the reply.

I just tried v0.41 (after uninstalling v.0.40) but it didn't change a thing.

Let me add this bit of additional information which may be of some help in diagnosing this issue. If I take a (known ts) asset file that freezes HDTV2DVD & re-process it into another ts file using VideoRedo, it will then load & process in HDTV2DVD just fine.

Does this suggest that some thing is wrong with my source asset file? Strange thing is, files captured exactly the same way always loaded & processed in HDTV2DVD just fine before.

What is the source of the original .ts file? VRD is an app which corrects errors in transport streams, and errors are certainly common enough. So apparently your ts was corrupt, and VRD fixed it (check the log to see what it did, it's in the VideoReDo program folder).

Another app which corrects many transport stream errors is MPEG2Repair, but IMO it is much slower than VRD. In any case if you want to prove that the file had errors you might want to try it.

I would not blame HDTV2DVD for not being able to process a corrupt ts file, if that is what you find from VRD & M2R.

Hi MaxBlack, Thanks for the reply. For what ever it might be worth; I should point out that this freezing is not isolated to a random TS clip every now & then. It has happened to every one of the last 15 to 20 (original, as recorded) files I have tried. Prior to this, I only very rarely saw a TS which HDTV2DVD wouldn't load & process.

The original TS file sources were dvb-t clips recorded to my hard drive. As you suggested, I looked at the VRD log files for the clip(s) that would not load in HDTV2DVD. I even enabled the "Output diagnostic data to log file" option. However, no obvious corruption/fixes jumped out at me.

However, being a "newbie" at this sort of thing; I'm not certain that I know what I'm looking for. Could you please describe a few examples of corruption (or VRD fixes)? Or point me to a source of information that does? I would really appreciate a bit more assistance with this issue.
    Best regards, Richard

I'm not familiar w/dvb-t files, nor can I suggest why only "the last 15 to 20" files aren't working (what has changed that they apparently worked before, and don't work now?).

It seems to me that whether VRD shows any errors or not, it is doing something which is making the files work properly with HDTV2DVD, yes? It could be for example that VRD is making PIDs where they don't exist in your recordings, and HDTV2DVD needs these to find the audio & video. I'm just shooting in the dark with this--you might want to read this post and in fact the whole thread on problems with error repairs.

Perhaps you need simply to accept that whatever has changed about your DVB-T broadcasts/recordings, VRD is fixing it and you'll need it to make HDTV2DVD work. I can only say that I have found VRD to be the best $50US I spent in 2005--I do a lot of HD transport stream capturing & editing, and it's been a godsend.

Thanks again for replying MaxBlack. I'm also at a complete loss as to what has changed - causing my HDTV2DVD to suddenly start locking up like it does. When I first started using it, I ran into a similar thing which I was able to solve fairly easily. All I had to do was to enable recording of PAT & PCM in my capture software.

But, according to the Windows error notices, it seems to have some thing to do with the ffmpeg files this time. I've talked to a few people; who are much more astute about this ffmpeg thing (than I am) but even they didn't know much about it.

I don't have a problem with using VRD to make my assets work. It would be nice however, if HDTV2DVD would work as advertised. Regardless, I'll go back to more research on this subject, including the VRD forum. Maybe some one there will be able to figure out what's wrong & how to fix it. By the way, a search of this forum indicates that I am not the only one to experience freezing. Unfortunately, none of those threads have been helpful.

    Hi MaxBlack,

Finally, there is joy. Regarding my remarks that, "It would be nice however, if HDTV2DVD would work as advertised. As well as "By the way, a search of this forum indicates that I am not the only one to experience freezing"!

Having reminded myself of my earlier experiences with "freezing" I went back to check the settings of my capture software. I found that my PAT recording setting was not working. After I reset it, HDTV2DVD now "plays as adverised".

    Thanks for helping.
    Best regards, Richard
